This Technics RS-X990 stereo double cassette deck, manufactured in Japan in 1989, was designed as a high-quality component within Technics' X7D and X9D MIDI hi-fi systems. It provided advanced tape editing capabilities for its era, fitting into the popular 360mm-wide form factor.
The deck offers the convenience of double auto-reverse, meaning both cassette wells can record and play in both directions without manual intervention. This facilitates continuous playback, with the option to loop through both sides of one deck before automatically switching to the other.
For tape copying, the RS-X990 supports both standard and high-speed dubbing from Deck B to Deck A. It also incorporates Dolby B and Dolby C noise reduction systems to minimise tape hiss, enhancing listening clarity. A music search function is included, which identifies song beginnings after a short gap, and an auto-fade feature allows for smooth transitions at the end of recordings.
