The TEAC LS-X7 is a pair of compact bookshelf speakers, originally produced in Japan during the 1980s. These vintage units feature a robust, industrial design with substantial metal enclosures, contributing to their reputation for durability. They were often employed as accurate near-field monitors in studio environments or as part of high-fidelity home audio systems where space was a consideration.
The LS-X7 employs a two-way driver configuration. A 1-inch soft dome tweeter handles high frequencies, working in tandem with a 4-inch woofer responsible for lower and mid-range sounds. These speakers are rated for a power handling of 40W RMS and present an 8-ohm nominal impedance.
Sonically, the LS-X7 is noted for its detailed treble response, offering crisp and analytical high-frequency reproduction. The midrange is generally smooth, though it can exhibit a slightly clinical character, which is not uncommon for compact monitors of this design. Despite their small size, the dual-driver setup allows for a bass response that extends down to approximately 100Hz, providing a surprisingly capable low-end for their dimensions.
