The Tandberg Series 3000X is a fully transistorized reel-to-reel tape recorder, engineered to meet the demands of the most discerning audiophiles. Designed with precision and exceptional sound fidelity in mind, this model is intended for use with separate Hi-Fi amplifiers or tuners—such as the Tandberg Hi-Fi FM Tuner Amplifier.

As a stereo model, the 3000X incorporates Tandberg's revolutionary cross-field recording technology, significantly enhancing high-frequency reproduction, especially at lower tape speeds—broadening the scope for high-quality audio performance.

Equipped with three tape speeds, the recorder features separate precision recording and playback heads, enabling real-time A/B testing, as well as sound-on-sound and echo effects. It includes DIN connectors for microphones and external audio components, as well as phono inputs for high-level sources. A standard stereo headphone jack is provided for private monitoring.

The microphone inputs are designed for high sensitivity, suitable for mics with 200–700 ohms impedance. Peak-reading VU meters offer accurate monitoring during recording. A cueing control allows users to locate specific parts of a recording while in fast-forward or rewind, by engaging the tape against the playback head for real-time audio monitoring.
