This SME Model 3009 Series II tonearm is offered for spares or repairs. Originally introduced in 1962 by the Scale Model Equipment Company, it established itself as a significant component in high-fidelity audio systems. Designed by Alastair Robertson-Aikman, this tonearm was recognised for its precision engineering and became a popular choice for high-end turntables of the era.

Over its production run, the Series II was adapted to accommodate evolving cartridge technologies. Early models featured higher mass, suitable for the moving coil cartridges of the time. Later "Improved" versions, released from 1973, were designed with reduced effective mass to better suit the high-compliance moving magnet cartridges that gained popularity.

The tonearm typically features a J-shaped aluminium tube, finished with a bright anodised polish. Internally, it incorporates a lightweight fibre lining intended to reduce acoustic vibrations. Its design includes characteristic knife-edge bearings for horizontal movement and a traditional hanging-weight system for anti-skating. This model is frequently sought after for use with classic turntables from manufacturers such as Thorens, Linn, and Technics.
