Sansui has long emphasised accurate platter speed and durability in its turntable designs, and the FR-D3 is no exception. Equipped with a direct-drive system and automatic return/shut-off, it offers an impressively low wow and flutter of just 0.028% (wrms) and a signal-to-noise ratio of 72dB, ensuring crystal-clear playback.

The tonearm return system is a standout feature—engineered to avoid any drag during playback, preserving tracking accuracy and sound integrity. With a simple push of the cue lever, playback begins smoothly, and at the end of the record, the tonearm gently returns to rest without user intervention.

The turntable’s sleek, minimalist design complements its high-performance motor. This brushless DC servo motor utilises an advanced pole/slot configuration—20 poles and 30 slots—for ultra-smooth rotation, superior torque, and pinpoint speed accuracy. The motor shaft, made of mirror-finished carbon chrome steel, operates within a highly durable bearing system originally developed for aerospace applications.
