The Quad FM3 is a classic analogue FM radio tuner, manufactured by the renowned British company Quad between approximately 1971 and 1981. As Quad's first tuner to utilise solid-state electronics, it succeeded the earlier valve-based FM2 model. Its understated design was intended to complement the Quad 33 pre-amplifier and 303 power amplifier, forming a cohesive system.
This tuner operates solely within the FM broadcast band. Tuning is facilitated by a pair of illuminated indicators on the fascia. Optimal station alignment is indicated when these lights achieve equal brightness. A separate indicator signals the presence of a strong stereo transmission.
Further features include mechanical markers that can be positioned on the tuning dial to denote preferred stations. The rear panel offers a DIN audio output and a control for adjusting the sensitivity of the inter-station muting function.
