The Quad Artera Play+ is a multi-functional component designed to be the central hub of a high-fidelity audio system. It integrates a CD player, a digital-to-analogue converter (DAC), and a preamplifier within a single, elegantly designed unit. This makes it suitable for managing both digital and analogue sources, and it is particularly well-suited to pair with Quad's Artera Stereo power amplifier.

At its core, the Artera Play+ employs the highly regarded ESS Sabre32 ES9018 32-bit DAC chip. Data from the slot-loading CD mechanism is buffered and then fed to the DAC in an asynchronous manner, aiming to reduce timing errors. The "Plus" model enhances connectivity by adding aptX Bluetooth wireless streaming and a dedicated 6.35mm headphone amplifier output on the front panel. For analogue output, it features a fully balanced Class-A stage designed for a clean and transparent signal path through its XLR connections.

This unit supports high-resolution audio playback, handling PCM files up to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD formats (DSD64, DSD128, DSD256) via its USB-B input. Users can also select from four digital filter options to fine-tune the sound to their preference. The Artera Play+ is constructed with a textured aluminium front panel, CNC-machined heatsinks on the sides, and a distinctive glass top plate.
