The Pioneer DJ DM-40D is a pair of compact active desktop monitor speakers, designed for aspiring DJs, home producers, and general music listening. Each speaker features a 4-inch fibreglass woofer and a 3/4-inch soft dome tweeter, driven by a Class-D amplifier integrated into the left unit. This amplifier provides 19W of power to each speaker, totalling 38W for the system.

These speakers incorporate front-facing bass reflex ports with internal grooving to enhance bass response and reduce air turbulence, allowing for placement close to walls. The convex diffusers on the tweeters are designed to broaden the stereo image. A switch on the rear allows you to select between two sound modes. DJ mode accentuates bass and presence for a more energetic sound, suitable for practice and playback, while Production mode offers a flatter, more neutral response for detailed audio editing.

Connectivity includes rear-mounted RCA and 3.5mm stereo mini-jack inputs, enabling simultaneous connection to various devices like DJ controllers and computers. A 3.5mm headphone output is conveniently located on the front of the master speaker, automatically muting the main drivers when in use for private listening. A physical volume control is also situated on the front panel for easy access.
