The NAD 4220 is an AM/FM stereo tuner that dates back to 1987, a period often considered a high point for NAD's audio engineering. Designed to be a compact bookshelf component, it was built with a focus on strong radio signal reception and a clear, pleasing audio output. Its metal casing contributes to its robust build.

This tuner offers a digital synthesis approach to tuning, providing precise station selection. It aims to deliver a sound quality that is both detailed and comfortable for extended listening. The unit features a clear LED display for frequency indication and a stereo indicator light.

Key features include an FM blend mode designed to minimise static on weaker stereo transmissions by selectively reducing high-frequency noise. A dedicated mono mode is also available for challenging reception conditions. For convenience, the 4220 includes ten station presets, five for FM and five for AM, allowing for quick recall of favourite stations. Automatic search tuning helps in efficiently locating active broadcast frequencies.
