This Fostex R8 is an 8-track analogue multitrack recorder utilising 1/4-inch tape on 7-inch reels. It offers a tactile, hands-on recording experience, favoured for its distinctive analogue sound characteristics.

The unit provides 8 tracks of recording and playback at a fixed tape speed of 15 inches per second. A varispeed function allows for pitch adjustments of up to ±10%. For enhanced audio quality, built-in Dolby C noise reduction is included to minimise tape hiss.

Advanced transport functions are managed by an internal microprocessor, enabling features such as shuttle playback, zone limiting, auto-return, and memory points for locating up to ten different positions on the tape. The R8 also incorporates MIDI synchronisation capabilities, facilitating integration with sequencers and other MIDI-equipped devices.
