The Definitive Technology ProMonitor 80 is a compact satellite speaker, originally a key component of the well-regarded ProCinema 80 home theatre system. It is recognised for delivering substantial, room-filling audio from a small, robust enclosure. Although superseded by newer models, the ProMonitor 80 remains a popular choice on the pre-owned market, appreciated for its durable construction and effective performance, particularly in cinematic applications.

Designed as a two-way satellite, the ProMonitor 80 features a 4.5-inch midrange driver paired with an aluminium-dome tweeter. Its cabinet is constructed from Definitive Technology's signature PolyStone material, chosen for its density and non-resonant properties, which helps maintain audio clarity even at higher playback levels. Connection is made via binding posts on the rear, though these are recessed, which may require some care when connecting thicker speaker cables.

These speakers excel when integrated into a surround sound system, providing a dynamic and engaging soundstage that complements matching centre speakers and subwoofers. For optimal performance with modern AV receivers, it is recommended to set them as "Small" speakers and utilise a crossover point around 100 Hz, directing lower frequencies to a subwoofer. While highly capable for movie soundtracks, they may offer less intricate detail for critical music reproduction compared to larger, dedicated stereo speakers.
