Advanced Engineering

The DV27 incorporates innovative design features aimed at maximizing performance. It uses dual power supplies: a frequency-locked switch-mode supply for digital circuits and separate linear power for sensitive analog stages. Both power systems are driven by high-efficiency toroidal transformers, chosen for their low magnetic radiation.

The chassis features a 3-layer Sontech construction with vibration damping and a solid 8mm aluminum front panel, contributing to the player’s structural integrity and enhancing playback quality.

Superior Audio Architecture

For premium sound, the DV27 utilizes two Wolfson WM8740 multi-bit sigma-delta DACs operating in differential mono mode—one for each stereo channel. These DACs support 24-bit/192kHz audio, with separate regulated power supplies for minimal interference.

The analog filters and output stages also benefit from a dedicated low-noise toroidal power supply, delivering an audio experience that exceeds the high standards set by the acclaimed DV88.

To further enhance audio performance, the DV27 combats jitter—commonly found in many DVD players—by employing independent crystal oscillators for two audio clocks and an asynchronous master video clock. Additionally, a high-bandwidth SPDIF output transformer ensures the cleanest digital signal to external decoders.

Cutting-Edge Video Performance

Supporting all major analog interlaced video formats—component, RGB, S-Video, and composite—the DV27 features high-grade video op-amps for maximum signal fidelity. For progressive scan output, Arcam developed a custom decoder board using Silicon Image’s SiI503 with DVDO PureProgressive™ technology, offering visibly superior results compared to standard Japanese DVD player de-interlacers.

This advanced chipset employs:

While currently limited to 480p YUV due to licensing, the hardware supports 480p/576p and YUV to RGB transcoding, allowing for potential future upgrades via firmware.
