The Arcam Alpha 7SE is a respected CD player, originally launched in 1999. This "Special Edition" model builds upon the standard Alpha 7, offering refined audio performance and the addition of a digital optical output. It was recognised for its quality, receiving an award from What Hi-Fi? for its contribution to hi-fi during the 1990s.
Internally, the Alpha 7SE employs a Burr-Brown PCM1716 DAC, featuring 24-bit digital filtering to process audio signals. Its design also incorporated a modular chassis, allowing for potential internal upgrades to later Arcam models.
Listeners often describe the sound produced by the Alpha 7SE as warm, powerful, and engaging. It presents crisp high frequencies and a refined, open midrange, complemented by a bass response that is described as full, tight, and clean. The player is noted for its precise imaging and a wide soundstage that effectively separates musical elements.
