The A&R Cambridge A60 is a classic British integrated stereo amplifier, originally released in 1976. This model was the debut product from Amplification & Recording Cambridge, a company that would later become globally recognised as Arcam. It quickly established itself as a significant component in mid-market hi-fi systems, celebrated for its understated design, slim wooden casing, and refined, comfortable sound reproduction. Many listeners considered it an ideal upgrade from entry-level audio equipment. Designed with vinyl enthusiasts in mind, the A60 incorporates a well-regarded, low-noise phono preamplifier suitable for Moving Magnet cartridges. It also offers provisions for customisation with switchable loading modules and an optional internal board for Moving Coil cartridges. Beyond its dedicated phono input, the amplifier provides additional line-level inputs for sources such as tuners and tape decks, alongside a general auxiliary input. Later production runs of the A60 introduced RCA phono jacks for the turntable input, alongside the original DIN connections found on earlier models. Speaker outputs are thoughtfully configured with both switched and unswitched terminals, with the switched option automatically muting when headphones are connected.
